Timothy Harris is a highly accomplished American novelist, screenwriter, and producer. He has been publishing fiction since the late 1960s, beginning with Kronski/McSmash. He is most widely recognized for his prominent Hollywood screenwriting career, having co-written hit films.

His early life was nomadic. After his parents divorced, he attended boarding school in North Africa and lived in Italy, the Netherlands, and England, eventually studying at Cambridge. This gave him a unique “outsider’s perspective” when writing about the gritty underbelly of Southern California.

In the 1980s, Harris transitioned to screenwriting, pairing up with Herschel Weingrod. Together, they wrote some of the biggest cinematic hits of the era, including Trading Places (for which they were nominated for a BAFTA), Twins, Kindergarten Cop, and Space Jam.

Before making his Hollywood fortune, however, Harris made a massive splash in the literary world. His 1970s detective novels are widely regarded as some of the finest neo-noir works ever written, with critics declaring that “no one since Raymond Chandler has captured the excess that is L.A. as well as Harris”.
